What's Happening in Huntington, NY…

The Oneida County Child Advocacy Center (CAC) in Utica recently accepted murals from Splashes of Hope, a Huntington not-for-profit agency that gives hand-painted, kid-friendly murals to organizations that work with children.

Splashes contacted the CAC in 2014 and offered to give them murals suitable for children. The offer was accepted eagerly.

Splashes paints murals for various places, such as social service centers and hospitals, or anywhere they can help engender healing. One mural artist, Sarah Baecher, said the murals would give children a sense of space when they were being interviewed, or provide a peaceful spot in which they could just sit and relax, especially when the room has no windows. She said Splashes’ murals are designed to provide the children with a different world to observe, so they can take their minds of whatever is happening at the moment.

In some cases, the murals include animals that are familiar to the children, such as a CAC service dog. The murals were revealed and installed by Splashes at the center. Several of the painters were on hand at the installation to talk about their works.

This is the first time any of Splashes’ works have appeared in Utica. Each mural is unique and is based on local scenes.

Splashes might like to work with a brochure printing company on a booklet of the murals. This would illustrated thee mission and increase outreach.
