What's Happening in Huntington, NY…

A race will be held in November at the American Legion Hall in Huntington to help local agencies that benefit members of the community.

The Townwide Fund of Huntington Thanksgiving Day Charity Run is a family-friendly race where participants are encouraged to show their holiday spirit with costumes. The best three male and female runners will earn a reward, and so will the top athletes from each gender’s age group. Children who are 12 and below will be given a ribbon for taking part in the run. The course is four miles long, and the race will be held rain or shine.

Founded in 1961, the Townwide Fund of Huntington was set up people keen to assist local charities with fundraising. The goal of the organization was to ensure money raised in the town would stay inside the community. The group has helped other organizations in the area by raising more than $13m since its initial formation. Those who organize neighborhood fundraisers like these may raise public awareness for the event using flyer printing.

The cost to run in the race will be $25 per person in advance, and $40 for each athlete on the day of the event. There is also a fun run for kids that costs $10 to join. Fees for the Thanksgiving race are not refundable. Participants may not bring any inline skates, strollers, or dogs on the racecourse.
