Huntington task force to celebrate recovery month

The Town of Huntington (TOH) Opioid and Addiction Task Force will organize multiple events in September to honor National Recovery Month.

The community is invited to help combat the stigmas attached to addiction by taking part in the TOH Opioid and Addiction Task Force’s annual Wellness Walk for Recovery. The event raises awareness of the issue and gives attendees useful resources from local health organizations. Activities at the wellness walk include face painting, DJ entertainment, and a photo booth. Recovery presenters will also be at the walk to honor lost loved ones and encourage advocacy.

The TOH Opioid and Addiction Task Force will partner with the Northport-East Northport Drug and Alcohol Task Force to create a hopeful event at the end of the month. Celebrate Hope and Recovery is a program where people can learn how to use prevention, family support, and treatment to assist those struggling with addiction. The supervisor for the activity is Edmund J. Smyth, and he will be joined by four other councilmembers.

The Wellness Walk for Recovery will be held at Heckscher Park on Saturday, September 24 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. The second program of the month will be on September 29 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Organizations that create similar events to these may use poster printing to get more people interested in their causes.
