On June 3, 2016, New York's governor, Andrew Cuomo, announced construction is now officially underway on a welcome center. According to the Long Island Association, the center will include a “Taste NY Long Island” welcome center, located in Huntington.
The center will be located on a little-used parking area near the Long Island Expressway. The building will be LEED-certified, comprise about 15,200 square feet, and welcome visitors to the island by offering them the chance to explore and purchase products, beverages and produce made locally.
The Welcome Center is at the Exit 51-52 Eastbound of the Long Island Expressway, about 35 miles from New York City. Visitors to the island can learn about things to do and see, and also stop at Taste NY while they're at the center.
Governor Cuomo launched his Taste NY initiative in 2013, in order to promote the state's beverage and food industries. The measure has created opportunities for local farmers, dairy producers, artisans and artists to showcase their products at extensive public events, like the state fair. There are also Taste NY stores on the state's highway system, enabling travelers to purchase local products easily.
For many similar attractions, brochure printers have created colorful pamphlets, often with photos, that show the various goods for sale, as well as information about their production.
