Huntington Village, the central business district of Huntington, is well-established and busy, but also has a problem with parking, so the Town of Huntington is trying to find a solution and may opt for building a parking garage.
On Thursday, November 5, the town issued a request for a proposal for the construction of a parking structure. The garage must be “aesthetically pleasing” and will be sited either on Elm Street in place of the current municipal lot, or between Green and New Streets.
Huntington wants to enter into a partnership with someone in the private sector. Together, they would own and operate a municipal parking lot. The lot does not necessarily have to be a parking garage, but could instead be a mixed-use building including residential and retail space.
Whoever submits a proposal must double the number of spaces for public parking at a minimum, and that number does not include the spaces needed for a mixed-use project.
Interested parties are asked to submit proposals to Town Hall by noon, February 5, 2016. The winner will be the one that blends in best with the Village, offers the most parking, and has the potential to generate the most revenue.
