Two experienced restaurateurs are betting they can distinguish their Mexican restaurant from others on Huntington's Main Street, and their restaurant is open now to test their theory, according to an article on Newsday.
Andrew Affa and Steve Squitiro are the brains behind Mission Taco, located at 371 New York Avenue in Huntington. They are aware of heavy competition in the immediate area, as well as the fact that there are many Mexican restaurants on Long Island. However, they are hoping to surprise patrons with an innovative menu that is both family-friendly and suitable for a cocktail lounge, depending on the time of day.
Affa says they have split the offerings between traditional Mexican fare like barbacoas, which are meats slow cooked over an open fire, and chicken tingas; and trendier tacos that allow the chef to use his imagination. The chef in question is Andy Nasifoglu, and he has come up with dishes like a taco made with grilled octopus, served with a mole sauce, as well as several vegan options. Creations coming from behind the bar include a margarita topped with what Affa describes as “housemade sea salt foam” that is approximately three inches thick.
Mission Taco is open from 11:30 am until 10:00 pm Mondays through Thursdays; 11:30 am until 2:00 am Fridays and Saturdays; and 11:30 am until midnight on Sundays.
