The Bay Shore Special Education Parent-Teacher Association (SEPTA) has scheduled its ‘Shooting for the Stars’ fundraiser. This is the seventh year for the event, which honors the community's students.
SEPTA, which is a branch of New York's State Parent Teacher Association, supports children with special needs and learning differences. “Special needs” in this context is defined as any student, either residing in Bay Shore or in the Bay Shore School District, who is either receiving services, or has received services in the past, to help in learning endeavors. This includes a wide range of programs, from occupational therapy to autistic support and speech therapy, to Advanced Placement/Honors programs, to programs for gifted students.
SEPTA gives parents a meeting ground where they can share concerns and ideas with one another, as well as talking to administration officials and teachers. SEPTA advocates for each child, helping them reach their full potential, often by making sure they are able to take advantage of the program that will help them most.
SEPTA also informs community members about the issues special needs children face, and schedules seminars and meetings for parents to help them.
‘Shooting for the Stars’ will take place from 7:00 until 11:00 pm at Captain Bill's Bayview House on January 26. Tickets are $75 per person.
Events like this offer an opportunity to increase understanding, so officials might like to create Brochures that explain the organization's programs and purpose.
