Spring has sprung in Bay Shore, and that means it’s time for its green thumbs to book their space in a local public garden.
Plots will soon be made available for booking at the Organic Community Garden, and it is located at 28 Brentwood Road. The fee being charged to rent one is $50.00 for the full season.
The plots can be reserved starting in early May, and each will include a raised bed that is 8 feet by four feet by 11 feet, which means it will be large enough to grow a variety of food, decorative plants or a combination of both. Compost and drip style irrigation will be supplied, and the soil will be organic. The “community gardeners” can tend their crop at a time of their choosing, and while they work, they may be able to meet others who also enjoy getting their hands dirty.
More people are discovering the joys of gardening, and offering community plots gives those who don't have the space to do so a chance to “get growing”. Application Forms, waivers and Letterheads for an organization that offers services to the public can be downloaded by Stationery printers.
Bay Shore’s gardeners are welcome to reserve their garden spot on May 2nd. More details and contact information for booking a space can be found on its Patch listing.
