Run to brewery scheduled

In what is sure to be a popular reason to get people off their couches, the Great Long Island Running Club is organizing a race to a Bay Shore brewery.

The club has scheduled the 3rd annual Mardi Gras Run to the Great South Bay Brewery – a way to celebrate Mardi Gras and enjoy food and beer. The Mardi Gras run covers 7.1 miles, on flat ground through local neighborhoods. Participants have one hour and 45 minutes to finish the race.

A post-race party is planned indoors at the Brewery, with a live band, as much beer as racers can drink safely, and as much food as they would like to eat.

Every entrant will receive a commemorative shirt, and all finishers will receive a medal. Awards will be given to the top three female and male finishers in both the Open and Masters classes, and in each of the designated age groups.

In keeping with the Mardi Gras theme, there is a “bead stop” on the race course, and prizes for the best Mardi Gras costume. Banner printing can be used to mark the course of events like this.

The run is February 9, from 9:15 am until 12:00 noon. Preregister fees are $60, or $50 for GLIRC members. Same-day entry is $65. Packets can be picked up at the Brewery on February 8, from 12:00 noon until 5:00 pm, and on race day from 7:15 am until 9:00 am. Entrants must be at least 21 on the day.
