Long Island pupils eye Manhattan prize

School students from Long Island have produced business plans in a competition for places at a Microsoft event in Manhattan.

The process has involved a contest which was hosted in Farmingdale University during January. This institution could use Print companies in Central Islip if a similar event is to take place next year.

Rick Cross, a financial expert, has been interacting with judges to make the competition a reality this year. The judges have been recruited from the regional pool of academic and corporate talent. The Virtual Enterprises International (VEI) has been influenced by European vocational traditions.

Ellen Palazzo, a regional director for the VEI, has said:

“VEI is the real world program you wish you had in high school, it helps prepare students for college careers and for life.”

Palazzo has pointed out that the project included over 700 students from Long Island at the January stage, while Cross has indicated that he has backed the initiative before.

The aims of the VEI are varied because of the different skills being encouraged. The emphasis of the project has focused on areas such as economics, communication, entrepreneurship, and personal finance.

The Youth Business Summit (YBS) will be held in the middle of April and this will determine the winners of the process as a whole. The YBS is to take place in the city of New York.
