This month, ‘Divergent’ fans are in luck. The Hauppauge Public Library is offering an event to pit literature against film.
Geared towards young adults, the activity is being offered to individuals entering sixth grade through high school seniors. Prior to attending the event, program participants are urged to read the book ‘Divergent’.
The library will provide a screening of the movie, which is rated PG-13. There will also be food, including pizza, to enjoy. After watching the film, participants are invited to compare and contrast the movie with the book. Crafts related to the movie can also be completed. Those in attendance are eligible for a raffle and the prize is the ‘Divergent’ series triology. Library card holders can register on the library’s website.
The book-to-movie event is one of many kid and teen-friendly activities at the Hauppauge Library. The establishment also provides the community with teen game nights, introductory acting classes, play time activities, and various story times. Science, technology, and healthy living are some of the other programs the center has to offer. No doubt a poster printing service is helping to advertise all of these events.
The event takes place on August 13 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm in the community room. The library is located at 601 Veterans Memorial Highway, less than five miles away from Central Islip.
