Islip gives thumbs up to plans for former Entenmann bakery

Recently, the Islip Industrial Development Agency passed an inducement package worth $3.21m to encourage the sale of the former Entenmann bakery.

The new owners of the bakery could be the Suffolk County Industrial LLC. The organization hopes to turn the bakery, which comprises 519,493 square feet, into an industrial park that would hold from two to six tenants in the beverage and food industry.

The building’s current owner is Bimbo Bakeries USA, which is also Entenmann's parent company. Bimbo still distributes baked goods from this location, and will continue to do so as a tenant leasing space in the planned industrial park that will be created by the sale. The new facility will be called Entenmann's Corporate Park, and should generate about 150 jobs for workers in the area.

Mark Fischl, a trustee of the Long Island Power Authority with the LLC that is considering buying the property, says it hopes to make the purchase by March 1. The price will be about $10m, and tenants could be in the new park by the third quarter of 2016. Entenmann's went out of business at the site in 2014.

When the purchase is finalized, the new owners might consider working with a Central Islip flyer printing company on a mailer for area residents, letting them know jobs are available.
