Boaters who use the Atlantique Marina facility on Fire Island were upset by some changes proposed recently. According to a recent news item, Islip had proposed a change to
the way slips are rented, and also said it was increasing fees. Boaters particularly seem to have objected to the fact that larger boat slips would be able to be rented for the whole season.
In a compromise move, Islip has now agreed that there will be no slips rented out for an entire season. In addition, only twenty slips can be reserved ahead of time. Reservations can be made online, but are available only to local residents.
The fees will still be increased, though. However, electrical services will now be included as part of the fee increase. The marina is in Oakdale, about four miles from Islip, and Oakdale resident Diane Setter said the entire community came together to protest the decisions. She says they went to the Town Hall to discuss their objections with decision-makers there, and are very grateful officials listened to them.
City officials might consider memorializing these decisions by working with a flyer printing company on a mailer for all residents in the Islip and Oakdale area. The flyer could reiterate the terms under which the marina will operate from now on, so there is no confusion in the matter.
