History events continue in Bay Shore

The 2022 Historic House Tours at the Sagtikos Manor in Bay Shore will be hosted throughout the summer.

In 1697, the mayor of New York City, Stephanus Van Cortlandt built the Sagtikos Manor. For decades after, many different families moved in and out of the manor until Jonathan Thompson bought it. When the Revolutionary War happened, the British army used the estate as a temporary headquarters for a time. In 1790, in his first full year of presidency, George Washington stayed in the Sagtikos Manor for a night while he visited Long Island.

The Sagtikos Manor belonged to generations of Thompson’s family until Suffolk County purchased in 2002. Today, the Sagtikos Manor Historical Society leads public house tours to allow people to see the inside of the historic manor and learn about its rich history. The organizers of similar touring events frequently invest in brochure printing to provide visitors with informative printed materials that may include details about upcoming events and the history of the area.

Admission costs $12 for adults and $6 for children under 13.

The Historic House Tours at the Sagtikos Manor will be available on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays throughout July. Timeslots available for guests include 11:30 am to 12:30 pm, 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm, 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm, and 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm.
