Fundraising brunch to be held in Bay Shore

A brunch is being planned by a Massapequa group to raise funds for area families in need.

The Child Welfare Department of Woman's Club of Massapequa recently got together to work out the last details of their annual fundraiser. The group has decided to hold their event in Bay Shore, at the Southward Ho Country Club.

In addition to the brunch meal itself, live entertainment and raffles are also planned. All the monies raised go to help families who have children who need assistance in and around the Massapequa communities. The funds also go to a scholarship for a senior graduating from Massapequa High School.

The Woman's Club of Massapequa, which is part of the General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC), was established in 1890. The General Federation comprises over 3,000 women's clubs whose mission is to encourage civic improvements by volunteering in their communities. GFWC is one of the oldest, largest, nondenominational and nonpartisan women's organizations in the world. The Massapequa Club met for the first time in 1924, with 38 charter members in attendance. There are almost 100 members today.

The event is scheduled for November 24, and is open to the public. However, it's suggested that anyone who is interested in attending contact the event co-chair, Fran Bassett, at 516-972-0880, no later than November 14.
