A popular event is coming back to the Bay Shore area just in time to celebrate one of the season's most iconic decorations.
The American Legion Post #94 in Babylon, a short drive from Bay Shore, is once again hosting its Gingerbread Decorating Contest and Photos with Santa event. Complete details are still in flux, but a look back provides insight into what visitors can expect.
In 2019, the chamber head, Kelly Peckholdt, said everyone enjoyed seeing how creative the houses were. The competitors were placed in the contest according to their age. The first group was for youngsters up to the age of 6, the second was for those ages 7 to 12, the third group comprised those 12 to 17 years of age, and the final group was 18 and older. The colorful houses were left on display so people could vote for their favorite.
In addition to the gingerbread, Mr. and Mrs. Claus were on hand to take photos with visitors. A DJ provided the music, and people enjoyed face painting and games as well.
Organizers remind people that due to the ongoing health crisis, it is possible the day will have to be canceled or postponed, and ask that they check with the post before making final plans.
The contest is scheduled for 10:00 am on December 13. Events like this can be enhanced if banner printing is used to create seasonal decorations.
