An upcoming show will bring back memories for some, and win new fans for one of the legends of early rock.
“Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story” will be presented at the Argyle Theatre at Babylon Village in Babylon, a short distance from Bay Shore. “Buddy” is a “jukebox musical,” a play in which the songs are not written specifically for the show, but are popular hits, often those of the artist who is the focus of the show. “Jersey Boys” is a good example of this type of musical, as it features the work of The Four Seasons. “Buddy” features the songs made famous by Buddy Holly.
Buddy Holly is sometimes credited with defining what became the standard composition of a rock band: two guitars, drums, and a bass. He had a tremendous influence on later rock artists including Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, and Eric Clapton, and in 1986, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The show features more than 20 of Holly's biggest hits including “That'll Be the Day,” and “Peggy Sue.” The plot covers only three years in the artist's short life, starting with his initial recording contract, his relocation to New York, and the final tour of the Midwest, when he lost his life in a plane crash. Performances begin January 21, 2021, at 7:30 pm, and continue through February 28.
