Central Islip lights up the night

Central Islip locals can walk for a good cause with an event coming next week.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is hosting a ‘Light the Night Walk’. The campaign aims to bring people together to lift up survivors and remember those who lost the fight. In addition, the society hopes to raise awareness for treatments and fund research to find a cure.

Throughout the night, there will be music and entertainment. After the walk, a firework show will round off the proceedings.

In order to literally shed light on the disease, participants will hold illuminated balloons while taking a gentle stroll. There will be white balloons for survivors, red for advocates, and gold for remembrance.

In order to help raise money for the event, individuals will form teams. To become a ‘Champion for Cures’, individuals need to raise $100 or more. At this level, individuals will be given a T-shirt, lantern, and refreshment wristband. With $1,000 of fundraising, participants will be recognized and become part of the ‘Bright Lights Club’.

Due to the importance of this event, a flyer printing service may have been asked to create promotional materials to inform the community about the walk.

'Light the Night' will take place on October 25, with check-in beginning at 5:30 pm, followed by a remembrance ceremony at 6:15 pm. The walk will start at 7:00 pm. The event will be held at Bethpage Ballpark, located on 3 Court House Drive.
