Central Islip-based group coordinating Mexican quake relief

Adelante, a non-profit organization based in Central Islip, is coordinating efforts to help survivors of the earthquake that hit central Mexico recently.

The drive is to collect vital items to give to people left homeless by the disaster.

Adelante's executive director, Olga El Sehamy, was born in Mexico, and wanted to address the situation despite being thousands of miles away. She was inspired by seeing others opening their homes and cooking meals for those who were hardest hit, and decided to help. She has relatives in the area hit by the quake, and wants to bring normality back to their lives.

Adelante is asking for donations of a number of items including hand sanitizers, toothbrushes and toothpaste, garbage Bags, face masks, construction gloves, batteries, flashlights, latex gloves, peroxide, cotton, medical adhesive Tape, and gauze, which are particularly important in clean-up and first aid efforts. Also on the list are pet food, diapers, baby formula, and nonperishable foods of all kinds.

Adelante's offices are in Central Islip on Carleton Avenue, and will accept donations from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm. The organization is coordinating with others on Long Island to deliver the supplies.

In order to reach as many potential donors as possible, organizations like this could work with a flyer printing company on a flyer for a local-area Mailing, asking for help.
