Bay Shore brewery to rebrand

A brewery in Bay Shore has announced it is undertaking a major rebranding.

Great South Bay Brewery (GSB), which has been in business for 10 years, said it plans to change its Packaging. It says it will not make any changes to their beers, which have won awards, or back away from their dedication to brewing. They have decided to use a simpler design but remain true to the brand and its history.

The beer will be offered in cans with a chevron design, and the name of the style of beer in large letters underneath the name of the beer, such as ‘Pale Ale’ under ‘Great South Bay’. The brewer and style of beer are the two prominent pieces of information on the can, which is a much different design from most of those currently used in the brewing industry, according to special project manager Ryan Randazzo. Since all the cans look alike, except for the color and style of beer, Randazzo hopes customers will be able to find the beer easily, and maybe even try a different style.

In addition, GSB will use kegs and cans exclusively, and will no longer bottle their beer. Kegs will help lower the carbon footprint, as will switching to cans. Glass is heavy, and has to be packaged to prevent breakage, both of which mean that transporting bottles increases the company’s carbon footprint.
