Bay Shore area activity to offer early cancer detection

Breast cancer can often be beaten, and an opportunity for early detection of this group of diseases will soon be on offer near Bay Shore.

The Mobile Mammography Van will be rolling into Long Island Select Healthcare in Central Islip, and it will be on site for one day only. The service will be performed by New York State registered radiologic technologists with advanced training in mammography.

People who take advantage of the offer will be offered a seat in the waiting area, and they will have access to a private dressing room. To be eligible, women must be 40 or older and have had no mammogram carried out in the past year. They must not be pregnant, nursing, or have been diagnosed with breast cancer in the past. Those who do not have health insurance may qualify for care through the Cancer Services Program of New York. Photo identification will be required, and participants will be asked to present their insurance card if they have one.

The screening service will be taking place in a specially customized 40-foot van. A professional printer will be able to design and install vehicle wraps with a graphic design that really grabs the public’s attention.

Long Island Select Healthcare will be welcoming the mobile screening van on Monday, September 5. Appointments will be available from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm, and spots can be reserved by calling (631) 638-4135.
