Wall Township to take a step back in time
Late this spring, Wall Township will be the location for a military exercise that harks back to the Civil War.
Costumed reenactors will be recreating life in the mid 1800s, and the public has been invited to visit the encampment and take a step back in time.
The two-day event will work to offer a taste of what life was like when General Grant and Lee’s troops met on the battlefield. The spectators can watch all the action, and may even find themselves invited to join in, should they wish to do so.
The public can watch the assorted military drills that have been planned, and there will be lots of displays and educational activities that will offer a glimpse into the lives of both soldiers and civilians. There will be tours of the encampment as well as a musical program. The crowd can shop in the village’s craft shops, and the site’s Historic Village will be open for visitors.
The organizers noted that there is paid parking on site, and the proceeds from this will be used by the Historic Village at Allaire to fund its programming and meet its other expenses. A printing services provider will be able to supply an assortment of materials for this type of event, and can even design them so that they will look like they are from the 19th Century.
This year’s Civil War Encampment will be open for guests on June 1 and 2. Entry is free of charge, but donations will be appreciated.
