The humble but hardy horseshoe crab has been around since before the dinosaurs, and Wall Township residents will soon get a sneak peek into the lives of these arthropods.
Late July will see a presentation offered that explores the ecology of the horseshoe crab, and the Monmouth County Library - Wall Township Branch will be hosting the activity. Presented by the American Littoral Society, it will be an in-person event.
The facilitator for the session will discuss the anatomy of these arthropods, which are more closely related to scorpions and spiders than actual crabs. Everyone can learn more about their life history and the threats they face. They will find out what the Society has been doing to protect them, including tagging them for research and study.
Presentations give the public a way to learn a lot in a small amount of time. A banner printing company will be happy to lend a hand by providing oversized visual learning materials, tip sheets for how they can get involved, and other handouts.
Wall Township wildlife lovers are encouraged to include this activity in their plans on Tuesday, July 28. It will begin at 2:00 pm and has a runtime of one hour. The library is located at 2700 Allaire Road, and its Patch listing offers additional information about the event.
