At the end of May, many locals will be heading over to the Freehold Memorial Day Parade, which takes place every year.
As a rule, over 70 units participate, and the parade is considered the largest and oldest such parade in the area. Along with custom-designed and built floats, the parade features bands, military units, fire departments, youth groups, veterans’ groups, emergency response squads, and civilian units.
A 30-minute Point Memorial service will take place before the parade at Elks Point at 8:30 pm.
Most units will line up on Stillwell Place, Prospect Place, Kiawah Avenue, Berkeley Place, Brinkerhoff Avenue, and Main Street. Fire and rescue units will queue up Broad Street and Yard Avenue.
A flag-draped caisson will lead the parade and march to a slow cadence 15 minutes before the rest of the units.
The 1.5-mile parade will step off at 10:00 am at the corner of Main Street and Brinkerhoff Avenue. It will proceed down Main Street, march onto Broadway, turn left onto Murray, left onto Schanck, and right onto Monument. The procession will end in the Monmouth County Courthouse parking lot.
Local businesses are invited to sponsor this year’s parade. All sponsors will get public recognition announced by the master of ceremonies during the parade and will be listed on the event website. Substantial donations will have the company name and Logo Design printed on large Signs carried by volunteers along the parade route.
The Freehold Memorial Day Parade will take place Monday, May 30 in downtown Freehold.
