Monmouth battlefield tour brings history lovers to Manalapan

Historians and history lovers are in for a special treat next month, as a battlefield in Manalapan is opening up for a guided tour.

The Special Molly Pitcher Battlefield Walk has announced a date for this year’s event, with the walk’s guide leading guests along trails to find the potential sites of Ms. Pitcher’s famous well. The battlefield tour is rarely offered, and it is tied to another event earlier in the month that takes a closer look at how the myth of Molly Pitcher spread during the American Revolution.

Both events will be led by award-winning author Dr. David Martin, who wrote A Molly Pitcher Sourcebook in 2003. Martin will lead the group to the different sites on the Monmouth Battlefield where claims have suggested the famous well was located. Printing services can provide maps and other informative documents that tour guides can hand out to guests to improve the experience and aid with information retention.

The tour will follow these trails before ending at the Molly Pitcher Overlook on Perrine Hill. Hiking attire is recommended for the best experience, and attendees should dress for the weather conditions.

The tour will be held at Monmouth Battlefield State Park, and participants will meet Martin at the Visitor’s Center. It’s scheduled for Sunday, March 15th, at 1.30pm. Admission is free to the public.
