For those socially conscious Manalapan locals looking for something a little different this month, the Monmouth County Library will be offering a viewing of the film Grigris.
At first, the show appears to be about little more than a man with a leg injury attempting to become a professional dancer, but later reveals itself to be about the true nature of man and the challenges he faces.
Grigris was shot in the African country Chad, and revolves around a central character—a 25-year-old man named Grigris who has a badly injured leg. His dreams of becoming a professional dancer get sidetracked when his uncle falls ill, and the young man must embark on a tenuous journey filled with difficult decisions, as he seeks to earn money to pay for hospital bills.
Beneath the storyline, however, is a socially conscious morality play, with characters coming and going at a rapid pace. Viewers are left wondering about their own moral compass before the film ends, and what they might do should they find themselves faced with difficult circumstances. Some who wish to attend may want to have flyer printing carried out in advance to advertise the viewing.
The film will be shown Wednesday, February 18, from 2:00 pm to 3:45 pm at Monmouth County Library, 125 Symmes Drive, Manalapan.
