A fertile, beautiful area
Mountains and rivers form the borders of much of East Hanover. The Kittatinny Ridge (Blue Mountain) is the northwest border, and the South Mountains are the border in the southeast. Most of the southern border is marked by the Swatara Creek.
The fertile soil and ample water supply made the East Hanover area an agricultural and rural community, and today it retains much of that character. Residential developments tend to be low-density and scattered. When realtors work to help people find new homes in areas like this, they can work with brochure printers to create Booklets explaining a development's amenities.
History everywhere
Indiantown Gap is named for the Native Americans who lived in the area. The first were Susquehannocks, one of the tribes considered part of the Iroquois. In the mid-eighteenth century, German, English, and Scotch-Irish pioneers came to the area and lived peacefully with the Lenape people, but at the time of the French and Indian War, tribes allied with the French raided the settlements. In order to defend themselves, settlers built several structures include Reeds Fort, Harpers Fort, and Swatara Fort.
Adam Harper built a log house in 1740, near the junction of Indian and Swatara Creeks, and kept the region's first public house, starting a dynasty that continues to this day. In 1761, he bought another 300 acres; one of Adam's descendants built Harper's Tavern in 1804, and the tavern is still in operation, providing food and drink to area residents.
Historic structures like these are of interest to many people. Owners or managers can work with a postcard printing company to create colorful cards for visitors.
Canal versus railroad
Another site of historic interest is the Union Canal, which was the brainchild of William Penn, who thought it would be possible to join the Susquehanna and Schuylkill Rivers with a canal. In 1791, the legislature established a company known as the “Schuylkill and Susquehanna Navigation Company,” which formed the Delaware and Schuylkill Navigation Company the following year. This company aimed to connect the Delaware, Schuylkill, and Susquehanna Rivers. The difficult took years, but the Union Canal finally opened in 1827.
The canal had 95 locks on its 82-mile length, and was a success, but the Lebanon Valley Railroad was operating in the area by 1857, cutting into the canal's traffic, and by 1885, the waterway was abandoned. Today, much of the old canal, including several locks, can be seen along the creek. Historians who want to explain such projects can use flyer printing to create informational sheets.
Recreation in East Hanover
The community enjoys a number of parks, including the H.M. Levitz Memorial Park, which offers trails, a bird sanctuary, tennis courts, and a lodge, among other amenities. Memorial Lake comprises 230 acres, and is a great place for light hiking, and fishing. Marquette Lake has panfish and brown trout for those who can catch them.
Outdoor activities in such places are always fun, and people frequently have parties in these venues. They can use poster printing to help people find the group, and work with banner printing to create decorations.
