Workshop shares tips for taming wisteria

Wisteria is a popular garden plant that can be vigorous to a fault, and an East Brunswick area session will help those who enjoy growing this vine to keep it under control.

Grounds for Sculpture (GFS), which is one of Hamilton’s popular attractions, has made plans to offer a wisteria-themed workshop, which will provide a deep dive into the care and culture of this showy member of the legume family. It will be a hands-on activity, and everyone has been asked to be sure they bring along a sturdy pair of secateurs or garden shears, and a pair of gloves.

The group will be working with GFS Horticulturalist Janis Napoli, and she will walk them through the process of pruning their plant so that it will bloom more heavily in the spring. The participants will learn how, when, and where to make their cuts when pruning.

Attending a session like this gives area green thumbs a chance to sharpen their skills while meeting other home horticulturalists. Printed planting and pruning guides will help them to keep their plants in top shape, and Print shops can prepare them.

Grounds for Sculpture, which can be found at 80 Sculptors Way in Hamilton, will be offering this pruning class on March 20. Both members and non-members are able to participate in this activity.
