Part of turfgrass management is knowing how to address insect pests, and an East Brunswick area university has created an online course that will explore this topic in depth.
During the two-and-a-half-hour short course, the students will be taught by subject matter expert Dr. Albrect Koppenhofer, who specializes in Turf Entomology. The class will cover a variety of topics that can aid in keeping unwanted insects under control, and will also include other learning.
The learners will be introduced to some of the most common pest species of turfgrass, including ones that feed on the roots, stems and crowns of grasses. The benefits of encouraging beneficial insects to take up residence will also be discussed, as will the pathogens that affect them. The course is intended for the general public, and it will include suggestions for control measures such as Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
This event is being hosted by Rutgers Office of Continuing Professional Education, and continuing education credits may be available. Although a workshop like this is offered online, the participants may still appreciate receiving certificates on competition, and Stationery printers will be able to provide them.
Managing Turfgrass Insects: Identification, Biology and Special Control Considerations is set to take place online on December 16. Although it will be offered in a virtual format, it will be focused on the turfgrass species that perform best in the East Brunswick area.
