A new program is coming to the East Brunswick branch of the Middlesex County Vocational and Technical Schools Campus, which is intended to help those who take part become prepared for the latest jobs in the manufacturing sector.
Starting in the 2015-16 academic year, the four-year Advanced Manufacturing program, which is all inclusive, will begin training students in the most current of manufacturing methods and technologies. These will include such areas as electronics, computers, and mechanics.
According to the area’s Assistant Superintendent of Schools, the future looks bright for those in these fields due to the prospect of more manufacturing jobs coming back to the U.S. The New Jersey Advanced Manufacturing Network Director feels that it will soon be cheaper to produce goods in this country than in areas like China to which they are often outsourced. Such factors as lower energy costs, automatic manufacturing methods, and the increased use of robotics will play a role here.
It is expected that the end result will be an increase in the number of highly skilled positions, such as mechanical assembly technicians and industrial maintenance mechanics.
