Members of the East Brunswick Youth Council were among those on hand to help out at the Rutgers Garden Annual Fall Festival. The event was planned to help raise funds to support the 180-acre public gardens.
The day gave local families a chance to come out and enjoy a range of fall-themed activities and have fun while learning more about the garden and environmental issues in general.
Kids got a chance to visit the different ‘trunk or treat’ stations, where they could collect candy at trees throughout the property. There was also an opportunity for them to visit displays and watch demonstrations from the New Jersey Audubon Society, and to make a birdfeeder from a recycled plastic water bottle to take home with them.
Many of the Audubon Society’s displays focused on local plants and the efforts that are underway to protect them.
A secondary goal of the day was to encourage people to come out and actually visit the garden. It was hoped that those who stopped in would see that it had something to offer everyone, plant lover or not.
An event like this can serve to not only raise funds but also awareness. Banner printing companies can help by creating displays to attract passersby and encourage them to head inside and get a better look.
