Growers can grasp a gardening opportunity

The East Brunswick is now accepting online registration for those who wish lease a garden plot for the 2015 growing season.

The garden, which is located next to the Municipal Complex off of Rues Lane, has 160 plots available at a rate of $10 per year. Each household is allowed to obtain one plot, and along with the fee, each is expected to assist in the upkeep of the garden by joining one of the committees that oversee the maintenance and activities within the property.

The community garden is a project of the Friends of the East Brunswick Environmental Commission. Those interested in learning more about how they can get involved can visit the commission’s website, where they will find growing tips, a calendar of events that will be held throughout the year, and ways that they can donate any surplus produce to help others in the area. This is also the place to find the online registration form to obtain a plot for the upcoming growing season, as well as the rules and regulations for doing so.

A community garden provides a way to bring community members together and also give people a chance to work in a garden even if they don’t have a yard of their own. A poster printing company can lend a hand by creating signage for the property.
