Festival to offer Korean kick this month

Residents of East Brunswick will soon have a chance to get to know more about the culture of some of their neighbors.

The Calvary Korean Food and Culture Festival taking place this month will not only showcase Korean culture, it will also serve as a fundraiser for ‘Future with Hope’, which is raising money for victims of Hurricane Sandy who did not qualify for aid.

The area’s Korean population currently sits between 20,000 and 25,000 members, and it is hoped that the festival will give locals a chance to learn more about them.

Guests at the event will be treated to samples of food that pair Korean traditional offerings with more modern fare. Kimchi burgers and bulgogi tacos are just some of the items that will be on the menu. There will also be performances of traditional music and dance, some of which go back thousands of years. One of them is a dance that incorporates graceful moves and fans.

There will also be a fundraising yard sale with items like clothing and furniture available.

An event like this that brings residents of the town closer together while doing a good deed for others can help to build a strong sense of community. To help build a festive air for the day, a banner printing company can create decorations in time for the October 18 celebration.
