A recent event in East Brunswick gave local people a chance to get some free items while helping to divert unwanted materials from ending up in the landfill.
The Friends of the East Brunswick Environmental Commission (FEBEC) hosted the sixth freecycling day at the Crystal Springs Family Aquatic Center’s parking lot. The goal of the day was to encourage people to give away or exchange things they no longer wanted but were still useful, rather than toss them into the trash. Those who donated items to the event were invited to browse what others had left behind to see if there was anything they would like to take.
The idea for the day came about with the assistance of Reviv Mor, who is the owner of a local junk removal company. He noticed how much of what he was being asked to haul away could still be put to good use rather than being simply disposed of.
According to Mor, as much as 95% of the material put out for exchange during the freecycle ends up being diverted from the landfill.
