The third grade students at East Brunswick’s Lawrence Brook School recently came together to show their support for a new state representative.
A group of 73 of the pupils created a variety of written, art, and musical pieces to show that they were in favor of the automeris (Io) moth being selected as the state’s moth.
The kids had received an invitation to help the Friends of the East Brunswick Environmental Commission to create an education piece that supported granting this honor to the automeris. Back in March, the National Moth Week team gave talks to three classes about these insects and the role that they play in the environment. They were also given information about how a bill became a law in the state. They then created their own items that explained why they thought that this moth was the best fit for the job.
The pupils who took part are hoping that they will have a chance to present their work to the Legislature in Trenton next autumn, when they will be learning more about the state in their grade four classes. A printing company can lend a hand by creating bound Copies of the children’s works that can be given to each of the state’s representatives, and can be kept as a memento of their hard work by all those who took part.
The automeris moth is also called the Io moth, and is found throughout the region.Get a Free Quote for Copies
