Superstorm Sandy hit the East Brunswick area hard, and a local initiative is working to repair the damage. It will enlist the help of locals to make the community green again, with no cost to get involved.
A variety of public service groups and other organizations have joined together to offer free tree seedlings to area residents, which they can then take home and plant on their own property. If planted and cared for properly, these tiny trees will one day be big and strong, providing shade, homes and food for wildlife and adding a touch of beauty to the landscape.
Making sure that today’s seedlings make it to become tomorrow’s trees is an important piece of this sort of initiative. Giving each person who participates in the program a sheet of care tips can help to get the plants of to a great start, and these can be easily produced by area Print shops.
This event, which will be taking a page from the saying that “mighty oaks from little acorns grow,” has been scheduled for April 4. All community members are encouraged to participate.
The distribution of these tiny trees will begin at 9:00 am, and will continue until 12:00 pm or for as long as supplies last. The activity will be taking place at the East Brunswick Recycling Center, and those who would like to learn more about the project can contact jveit@eastbrunswick.org.
