East Brunswick asked to help keep out the cold

A winter coat can keep out the cold, but not everyone in the community is fortunate enough to have one of their own to wear. An East Brunswick initiative will work to change that, and the public has been asked to lend a hand.

A request has been made to locals to check their closets for any gently used coats they no longer need. They can be dropped off at any of the collection stations set up, and they will be cleaned and distributed to area community service organizations.

There will be four different drop-off points set up for the coats, and they will be collected and dry cleaned by the students participating in the Middlesex County Vocational and Technical School’s East Brunswick Campus’ School of Career Development. They will then be distributed to those in need throughout the area, and several local not-for-profits will take on this task.

While all outwear will be appreciated, the organizers noted that they will not be able to accept coats made from leather or suede. A banner printing company can help to make a project like this a success by crafting materials that draw attention to the collection stations and let the public know how they can help.

This year’s community coat drive will run from November 8 to 15. A full listing of the drop-off points as well as other details can be found on the function's Facebook listing.
