Two local PSU students honored for outstanding performance
Among the 10 students named as major award winners for the 2024-2025 academic year by the Plymouth State University (PSU) Department of Athletics were locals Josh Crosswhite and Rowan McCarthy.
Crosswhite, a Littleton resident, was the male recipient of this year’s John C. Foley Leadership Award, which is presented to the student-athlete who has displayed outstanding leadership. Crosswhite, a senior on the university’s football team, was a defensive back who in 2023 was the third-leading tackler. For his last year, however, he transitioned to the position of wide receiver for the fall season. Additionally, he filled in for positions on special teams and volunteered to be a long snapper when the Panthers were dealing with multiple injured players, despite having never done any snapping.

McCarthy received the John P. Clark Award, which is given to the top true freshman who excels in athletic and academic distinction. A resident of Pepperell, McCarthy was on the field for all 20 of the university’s men’s soccer games. Of those 20, he started 18 times and in 16 instances played the whole 90 minutes. Anchoring the team’s defensive unit, he made a significant contribution to the Panthers playing their first postseason game since 2015.
