Recently, Plymouth State University (PSU) was awarded a $215,000 grant to train faculty new teaching methods in the general education program in 2019. The training will be to engage students using the Integrated Cluster model in education.

The grant was given by the Davis Education Foundation, and represents an innovative way to connect students with learning different disciplines through collaborative efforts. It involves teachers and students working with other majors, businesses, and nonprofit organizations in the community.

Cathie LeBlanc, professor of digital media and general education coordinator at the university, said that this method of teaching supports instructors with pioneering teaching methods. The Davis Educational Foundation finds the cluster teaching method to be a bold approach to expand PSU students’ learning experience. The grant will support events that last several days, led by experts in the community.

This grant will focus on learning through special projects and developing special audiences off campus. The staff will have professional development seminars presented by PSU and the staff throughout the year. The students work on projects in sustainability, social justice, artificial intelligence, and legal issues.
