Science exhibit to run at Museum of White Mountains

The virtual science exhibit “Endangered Invasive Undiscovered Species”, co-curated by Professor Kimberly Ritchie and Dr. Diana Jolles, will soon be online at The Museum of the White Mountains in Plymouth.

Sure to interest local art and graphic design lovers, the online exhibit explores Professor Ritchie’s interest in at-risk environments for animals and plants. It has environmental art work from her trips to Greece and Iceland, and work from students on campus involved in environmental projects.

The art exhibit will have prints, murals, and sculptures of global endangered animals and plants.

Student created wall murals using vinyl decals that were hand cut. Combining art and scientific research in their art projects, they concluded that species were being endangered by human farming, deforestation, and commercial development.

In Greece, Ritchie collected sea glass, plastic, wire, and rope on the beach. She made collages of the object to reflect the pollution of the oceans in the world. The exhibit has prints and sculptures of new plant species designed by the professors and students.

The PSU Herbarium is part of the exhibit. It is a collection of prints and scientific info on plants, algae, and fungus studied at Plymouth State University. The work is of Professor Diane Jollies and a graduate student, Hannah Volmer.

The online exhibit will be available from December through the end of February 2021 online at the Museum of the White Mountains at PSU.
