Matthew Jolin won with his digital illustration “Adulations of Aberrant Green” and will have his piece displayed at the U.S. Capitol.
In a new release by the office of Rep. Annie Kuster, Jolin is quoted as saying:
“As a person that struggles quite a lot with general communication and making connections with people, I like to put my thoughts, feelings, and struggles into art. The depths of meaning in this piece are nothing that I could explicate in the brevity of a summary, so I leave it up to the viewer’s imagination to discern my intentions.”
According to the artist, the piece was motivated entirely by his own passion for nature, which in this instance is represented by barn owls. Jolin says that each owl is supposed to represent a specific individual in his life with the patterns and colors symbolizing aspects of that individual.

Adulations of Aberrant Green was one of 20 pieces entered in the Second Congressional District Art Competition. It was chosen as the winner by a judging panel garnered at New England College.
In her release, Rep. Kuster thanked all students who participated in the competition and said she looked forward to seeing Jolin’s artwork in the Capitol.
