Tenney Mountain Ski Area near Plymouth will be open once again this winter, bringing with it the potential for development in the area.

Tenney dates back to 1960 and was created from logging roads. Bosting 40 trails and 1,400 vertical feet of skiing, it is easily accessible from Interstate 93 and, although lacking in some more modern amenities, holds many memories for those in the area who may have experienced family trips or learned how to ski there.

CEO of Timberline Communications and Timberline Construction of Canton, Massachusetts Steven Kelly, has purchased close to 900 acres in and around the ski area. He said that much of the master planning will take place over the next year for the area. Stakeholders, including the town of Plymouth, Plymouth State University (PSU), and the town of Bristol, will all be involved in the phased approach that will be taken in planning the property over the next few years. Banner printing is often used at such sites to inform those in the area of possible projects planned.

There could be student housing and research facilities associated with PSU along Route 3A, as well as homes, hotels, condominiums, and commercial and retail buildings. Emphasizing the huge opportunity in Tenney, Kelly said the area offers the land and history to undertake many projects and boost the economy in the area.
