Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth has achieved provisional Level IV Adult & Pediatric Trauma Center status.

Speare Memorial’s new trauma center designation is good news for both the city and the entire central part of the state. The upgrade was provided by the New Hampshire Department of Safety and highlights the hospital’s commitment to providing trauma patients, both pediatric and adult, with extraordinary round-the-clock care.

Dr. Andrew Seefeld, Director of Trauma Services and Chief of Emergency Medicine at Speare Memorial Hospital, paid tribute to the resources, equipment, and expertise available at the facility, all of which is crucial to providing Level IV care for trauma patients.

Speare, in its capacity as a Level IV Trauma Center, provides immediate evaluation, diagnosis, resuscitation, stabilization of the injured, and surgery. Additionally, those patients who require more comprehensive care can depend on the hospital to safely transfer them to the appropriate facilities when the need arises.

A committee dedicated to Trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety was created by Speare to ensure its trauma care delivery continuously improves. The committee creates policies, reviews trauma cases, and ensures the latest evidence-based trauma care is provided by its medical providers.

The provisional designation will be in play until October 2024. Whether it continues after that will depend on the State’s evaluation.
