The Museum of the White Mountains, located at Plymouth State University, has a new exhibit about the grand hotels located in New Hampshire.
These hotels were popular in the 19th and 20th Century, but only four luxury/grand hotels have survived until this day. Often accommodating more than 200 guests, they served large gourmet meals, had many recreational activities, and provided special services for guests.
Grand hotels served the wealthy community. They were the most famous hotel in town and notable landmarks. There exhibit is designed to look like a grand hotel.
The Grand Hotels of the White Mountains exhibit is a visual display of grand hotels with paintings, photographs, antiques, and stories about staff and guests.
The four surviving hotels left in New Hampshire are a big focus of the exhibit. These are the Mountain View Grand Resort Spa, Omni Mount Washington Resort, The Wentworth Hotel, and the Eagle Mountain House and Golf Club.
Cynthia Robinson, director of the museum, says the staff visited some of the hotels when working on the exhibit. They have several special guest speakers in July and August as part of the program.
It will run July, August, and until September 12 on Monday through Friday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Saturdays 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Plymouth has Print shops that design and provide poster printing for events like this.
The White Mountain Museum is located at 34 Highland Street. Admission is free.
