Franconia Notch State Park ranked top in U.S.

TravelAwaits.com polled its readers in an effort to determine the best state parks in the country, and New Hampshire’s own Franconia Notch State Park was voted No.1.

A popular travel site, TravelAwaits.com took on the considerable task of researching the most popular state parks in the United States. When it came to making the final determination of which one was the best, they deferred to their readers to pick their favourites.

Those living in the Granite State will not be too surprised to find out that Franconia Notch rose to the top of the list. At only a little of 30 miles from Plymouth most residents here are familiar with all the park offers.

Some of the highlights of Franconia Notch include Flume Gorge, Echo Lake, and the Cannon Mountain Tram. In his account of the park SJ Morgensen, a writer for TravelAwaits, describes Echo Lake as:

"This little lake, surrounded by mountains, is completely unexpected and looks like a painting. It's absolutely gorgeous."

Truly a four-season park, in addition to the hiking trails around the lake and through Flume Gorge, visitors can also enjoy fishing and swimming at Echo Lake. The Cannon Mountain Tram offers miles of panoramic views that are particularly impressive in the fall, and provides skiing opportunities in winter.
