Youth mental health first aid training to be offered in Nashua

Young people can face a host of mental health issues, and a training program being offered in Nashua will teach those who take part how to provide first aid in this situation.

The eight-hour workshop will equip attendees with the knowledge they need to recognize Signs that an adolescent or young adult may be experiencing a mental health issue or crisis. In addition to this, they will learn what to do to help until they can be connected to a professional. Participants will also discover ways they can provide self-care.

A variety of mental issues will be discussed, including AD/HD and eating disorders. While the session will not make people qualified to diagnose an illness or become a counselor, it will teach them what to do until more qualified help can be obtained. They will receive instruction in how to be a nonjudgmental listener, give information and reassurance, assess risk, encourage self-help, and put the individual into contact with appropriate supports in the community. Booklet printing can be employed to produce listings of these agencies and service providers, which includes their contact information that can be distributed to all those who take the course.

The workshop will be held on November 29 from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm at 45 High Street in Nashua. The cost to participate is $30, and those who are interested can register through its website.
