Nashua set to get tree tapping

A Nashua area workshop will explore the basics of the historic and often rewarding practice of producing maple syrup.

The Maple Sugaring class will walk attendees through the entire process of producing maple syrup and sugar, from the tree right to their table. It is designed for the beginner who would like to get started on the hobby, and it will be led by facilitators with many years of experience.

The session will help those who participate hit the ground running, and one of the topics that will be on the agenda is how to identify sugar maple trees even in their winter dress. The bucket and spigot method of tree tapping will be introduced, and the safe collection, processing and storage of the final products will be reviewed as well. Advance registration is required, as this will make it easier for the organizers to plan.

A workshop gives the public a chance to pick up some new skills in a fun and supportive environment. Copies of handouts and other learning materials can be prepared by Stationery printers, and these can include diagrams, illustrations and other graphic design components.

This chance to get the inside scoop of making maple syrup at home in time for the upcoming sugaring season will be held on Saturday, February 3 at 117 Ridge Road in Hollis. It will run from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon.
