Nashua Library workshop crafts hand-tied fishing flies

Fly tying is a hobby that combines form and function, and a workshop that introduces the practice may help Nashua anglers land their next big fish.

The Nashua Public Library offers a variety of learning opportunities, and it will be running a fly tying workshop in partnership with Stone River Outfitters. It’s been scheduled for the event, and anyone age 16 and up is welcome to participate.

All those who register will receive the materials they need to prepare 3 or 4 flies, and they will be able to take them home with them. Nate Harris and Jay Guarneri will serve as the facilitators, and everyone will learn about and gain hands-on practice with thread control, wrapping materials, dubbing and measuring proportions while they craft their project. Tips for building complexity will be shared, and only a limited number of seats are available. Financial support for the activity has been provided by Friends of the Nashua Public Library.

Fishers and other hobbyists may be eager to pick up some new skills, and being part of a class provides the chance to do so. Copies of handouts for distribution and other learning materials for an activity can be ordered from Stationery printers.

Nashua fishers who would like to up their game may register for this introductory session to the art of tying flies by visiting the Library’s website. It will be held in its large meeting room.
