Broad Street Parkway completed in Nashua
The largest project to be ever be municipally managed in the state has been completed in Nashua, and it is now open and ready for vehicle traffic.
The city’s Mayor Donalee Lozeeauwas on hand for the grand opening celebration of the bridge that now spans the Nashua River. She spoke to the crowd, giving them details about the project’s history and the benefits it could potentially bring to the community.
The Broad Street Parkway has been a long time in the making. In the planning stages for the past several decades, it is intended to both reduce the levels of traffic on Main Street and also to help bring new development to the millyard. Along with this, it provides more open access to the site of the Mohawk Tannery. This means that 29 acres will now be available for use.
The project came with a price tag of $80m, and the new stretch of roadway brings drivers form the F.E. Everett Turnpike to the edge of the downtown area. A printer that also provides marketing services will be able to create a variety of publications and other materials that get the word out about this newly completed infrastructure, appealing to businesses that may be looking to set up shop in the area.
The crowd who had gathered for the event expressed their pleasure at the completion of the project by giving a hearty cheer as the very first vehicles took to the completed parkway.
