Stratham to learn soapmaking secrets

Stratham residents who are curious about how soap is made are invited to get some hands-on experience in an upcoming workshop.

The Soap Making 101 class will explain how to prepare this common toiletry item, focusing on the cold process method. It is geared towards beginners, and everyone who participates will go home with two bars they have made on their own.

The facilitator will introduce techniques that can be used to produce soap that is as pretty as it is functional. Oils and emollients will be incorporated, and everyone will learn the basics of swirling to create a special look. The use of a mold is also on the agenda, and everyone is asked to wear long sleeves, with rubber kitchen gloves and aprons also suggested. The workshop's runtime is three hours, and the fee to participate is $63 each.

The host of the learning activity explained that, at the end of the session, everyone will go home with Copies of handouts that provide details that may be helpful to those who plan on making soap at home. Print shops can be called upon to provide copying and a wide range of other services for event organizers.

The Misty Meadows Herbal Center has made plans to offer its Soap Making 101 class on February 27. The venue is located at 183 Wednesday Hill Road in Lee.
